A television distribution technology that carries channels to subscribers over coaxial or fiber-optic cable rather than over the air. It began in the United States in 1948 as Community Antenna Television, using large antennas on hills or mountains to capture broadcast signals for communities blocked by terrain, and modern systems use a hybrid fiber-coaxial architecture that combines optical fiber trunks with coaxial cable to the home.
