The transmission of moving images into the home, demonstrated mechanically by John Logie Baird in 1926, made all-electronic by Philo Farnsworth and others, and launched as a regular public service by the BBC in 1936. Television became the dominant mass medium of the second half of the twentieth century, the shared screen for news, sport and drama.
