The Shadowhunter Chronicles

Literature-Originated Franchises

The Shadowhunter Chronicles is a media franchise built on the fiction of the American young adult author Cassandra Clare. It currently covers six series of novels, three short-story collections, five graphic novels, one film and a television series, along with other media. Its shared setting is a hidden world in which fairy tales and mythologies exist beside ordinary humans, and in which the Nephilim, called Shadowhunters, descend from angels and guard against demons while keeping an uneasy treaty, the Accords, with Downworlders such as warlocks, faeries, werewolves and vampires. The first books published were The Mortal Instruments, beginning with City of Bones in March 2007, followed by The Infernal Devices, The Dark Artifices, The Eldest Curses and The Last Hours, with settings that range from Victorian London in 1878 to New York in 2007.
