Media franchises whose fictional universe first appeared in a novel, placed here by strict medium of origin even where a later film series became more commercially prominent, a call stated rather than treated as beyond dispute. Belongs here: Harry Potter, James Bond, Jurassic Park, The Chronicles of Narnia, The Hunger Games and The Lord of the Rings, each originating as a novel or novel series before any screen adaptation. Does not belong here: a franchise that began directly as a film, grouped under film-originated franchises, even one later expanded into novelizations.
