The British Broadcasting Corporation, founded as a company in 1922 and chartered as a public corporation in 1927, the model public service broadcaster: license-fee funded, charged to inform, educate and entertain. It launched the world's first regular high-definition television service in 1936 and remains one of the largest news organizations on earth.
