Shonda Lynn Rhimes, born in Chicago on 13 January 1970, is an American television producer and screenwriter and the founder of the production company Shondaland. She became known as the first showrunner, meaning creator, head writer and executive producer, of the medical drama Grey's Anatomy, its spin-off Private Practice and the political thriller Scandal.
