Belongs here: narrative and documentary film directors of any era or national tradition. Does not belong here: figures whose primary contribution was inventing motion-picture or photographic technology, grouped under photographic and motion picture technology pioneers, or figures chiefly known for building a studio or media company rather than for directing craft.
