Grey's Anatomy is an American medical drama created by Shonda Rhimes that premiered on ABC in 2005, following surgical residents, attending physicians and staff at a fictional Seattle teaching hospital, centered in its early seasons on surgical intern Meredith Grey. Built around an ensemble cast whose personal and professional lives intertwine alongside its medical storylines, it became one of the longest-running prime time dramas in American television and one of ABC's most commercially successful series, and helped establish Rhimes as a major American television producer.
