Superman #1 is a comic book with a cover date of Summer 1939, published by National Allied Publications, the company that became DC Comics, featuring the character created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster who had already proven popular in Action Comics #1 the previous year. It was the first time any superhero was given a dedicated comic book series of their own, an unprecedented step at the time, and Superman quickly became the first superhero to be published in more than one ongoing magazine at once. The series went on to reach circulation of over a million copies a month in the early 1940s.
