A Canadian-American comic book artist best known for co-creating Superman with writer Jerry Siegel, first published in Action Comics #1, cover-dated June 1938. Siegel and Shuster sold the rights to the character for 130 dollars and a contract to supply further material, a modest arrangement that became a source of decades of legal disputes between the creators and DC Comics over credit and compensation.
