A table-tennis-themed arcade video game released by Atari, Inc. in 1972, designed and coded by engineer Allan Alcorn at Nolan Bushnell's direction after Bushnell viewed the Magnavox Odyssey table-tennis game in May 1972. Pong became the first commercially successful video game, helping establish the video game industry as a lucrative business; Magnavox subsequently sued Atari over patent infringement, and Atari settled out of court in 1976 for 1.5 million dollars and became a Magnavox licensee.
