An American video game developer and home computer company founded on June 27, 1972, by Nolan Bushnell and Ted Dabney in Sunnyvale, California. Atari released Pong later that year, the first commercially successful video game, and went on to define the golden age of arcade video games (roughly 1978 to 1983) with titles across thousands of arcade cabinets, before the North American video game market crash of 1983 and a subsequent split of the company.
