Harvest of Shame is a 1960 American television documentary presented by journalist Edward R. Murrow and directed by Fred W. Friendly, broadcast by CBS as part of the CBS Reports series on November 25, 1960, the day after Thanksgiving. Based on nine months of fieldwork by producer David Lowe, it follows migrant agricultural workers traveling from Florida through the northeastern United States, documenting their poverty, unsafe transportation, exclusion from federal labor protections and their children's lack of access to education. It was Murrow's final CBS documentary before he left the network in early 1961, and it is widely credited as the first time American television gave millions of viewers a close look at what it means to live in poverty.
