Buena Vista Social Club is a 1999 documentary directed by Wim Wenders, following American guitarist and producer Ry Cooder as he travels to Havana to reunite a group of veteran Cuban musicians, many in their seventies and eighties and long retired from professional performing, for a series of recording sessions and concerts in Amsterdam and at Carnegie Hall in New York. The film grew out of the acclaimed 1997 album of the same name that Cooder had produced with the same musicians, and it introduced performers including Ibrahim Ferrer and Compay Segundo to a global audience. It was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature.
