Sherlock Hound

Television-Originated Franchises

Sherlock Hound is a Japanese animated television series that aired on TV Asahi from 6 November 1984 to 21 May 1985. It is loosely based on the Sherlock Holmes stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, but turns all the classic characters into dogs. The canine Sherlock Holmes, his assistant Watson and the housemaid Mrs. Hudson work together to solve mysteries, and the culprit is usually Professor Moriarty and his gang, who use all kinds of wacky contraptions to steal what they want. TVmaze classes it as an action and adventure anime in its animation category. It is placed here because the franchise first appeared on television, even though its characters are adapted from a literary source.
