Power Rangers

Power Rangers is an American media franchise created by Haim Saban, adapting footage and concepts from Japan's long running Super Sentai tokusatsu television franchise for American audiences, beginning with Mighty Morphin Power Rangers in 1993, which follows a team of ordinary teenagers who transform into costumed, color coded superheroes to pilot giant robots called Zords against alien threats. Each subsequent season has generally introduced a new team, costumes and storyline drawn from a different corresponding Super Sentai series, while typically retaining continuity within an overarching Power Rangers universe, and the franchise has produced dozens of television seasons since 1993 alongside two theatrical films and an extensive toy line from Bandai. Power Rangers is widely credited with introducing the tokusatsu genre, live action series built around special effects and costumed heroes, to a mainstream American audience, and its combination of imported Japanese action footage with newly filmed American drama scenes became an influential low cost production model later used by other adapted franchises.
