Harry Potter

Harry Potter is a British media franchise based on the seven fantasy novels written by J. K. Rowling and published between 1997 and 2007, following the orphaned wizard Harry Potter through his education at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and his eventual confrontation with the dark wizard Lord Voldemort. Warner Bros. adapted the novels into an eight film series released between 2001 and 2011, largely retaining the same core cast across the decade of production, and the books themselves have sold more than 600 million copies worldwide, among the best selling book series in history. The franchise has since expanded into the Fantastic Beasts prequel film series, a West End and Broadway stage play, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, video games including the Wizarding World themed Hogwarts Legacy, theme park lands at several Universal Studios resorts, and extensive merchandise, and its vocabulary, from Muggles to Quidditch, has entered wide informal use well beyond its original readership.
