America's Funniest Home Videos, often shortened to AFV, is an American television programme classed by TVmaze as a reality show in the comedy and family genres. It has been broadcast by ABC since its premiere on 14 January 1990, and the network describes it as the longest-running primetime entertainment show in ABC history. Its stated mission is to give families something genuinely funny to enjoy together, presenting hysterical moments that fly by at a dizzying pace. The programme was still running when this record was made, with its thirty-sixth season announced for the autumn. It is placed here because the franchise first appeared on television. The separate National Geographic Wild spin-off, America's Funniest Home Videos: Animal Edition, is a different programme.
