The independent United States federal agency that regulates interstate and international communications by radio, television, wire, satellite and cable, created by the Communications Act of 1934. It succeeded the Federal Radio Commission that the Radio Act of 1927 had established, broadening federal oversight from radio alone to the full range of electronic communication.
