Ridley Scott

Sir Ridley Scott is an English film director and producer whose visually dense, atmospheric style has shaped science fiction, historical epic and crime filmmaking since the 1970s. His breakthrough films Alien (1979) and Blade Runner (1982) are considered defining works of modern science fiction cinema, and he went on to direct large scale historical and war films including Gladiator, Black Hawk Down and The Martian, and produced the Blade Runner sequel. Scott's films have grossed a cumulative total exceeding five billion dollars worldwide, making him one of the highest grossing directors in film history. He has won two Golden Globe Awards and two Primetime Emmy Awards and received four Academy Award nominations for directing and producing, along with eight BAFTA Award nominations, without a competitive directing win in either; the Academy later recognized his career with an Honorary Award. He was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 2003 for services to the British film industry and later made a Knight Grand Cross.
