Louis C.K.

Directors and Filmmakers

Louis C.K. is an American stand-up comedian, actor and filmmaker, born Louis Alfred Székely on 12 September 1967. His place in media history rests on the way he moved between television, film and self-distribution. He began in the 1990s as a writer for other comedians and for late-night and sketch television, including work on The Chris Rock Show, where his writing won an Emmy in 1999, and he directed surreal short films and two features, Tomorrow Night in 1998 and Pootie Tang in 2001. His FX series Louie, which he created, directed and starred in, ran from 2010 to 2015 and won him Emmy recognition for its writing. In 2011 he released a stand-up special directly from his own website for a flat five dollars without copy protection, an early and widely noticed experiment in direct-to-audience sales. His honours include Emmy, Grammy, Peabody and Writers Guild of America awards. In 2017 he admitted to sexual misconduct, which led to the withdrawal of his film I Love You, Daddy, and he later returned to stand-up touring.
