Julia Cuthbert Smith was an English television director and producer, born in Maida Vale, London, on 26 May 1927 and died on 19 June 1997. She is best known as the co-creator, along with Tony Holland, of the BBC soap opera EastEnders, on which she also worked as a director and served as its first producer.
