John Marwood Cleese, born in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, on 27 October 1939, is an English actor, comedian, screenwriter, producer and television presenter who has been active since 1961. Emerging from the Cambridge Footlights in the 1960s, he first achieved success at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and as a scriptwriter and performer on The Frost Report, and in the late 1960s he cofounded the comedy troupe Monty Python. Within this atlas John Cleese is credited as the creator of Monty Python's Flying Circus and Fawlty Towers.
