Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau, born Plumpe, was a German film director, producer and screenwriter. He was born in Bielefeld on 28 December 1888 and died on 11 March 1931. He is regarded as one of cinema's most influential filmmakers for his work in the silent era, and his directing career ran from 1919 to 1931. Within this atlas F. W. Murnau is credited as the director of The Last Laugh, Faust, Nosferatu (1922 film) and Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans.
