Philip Alexander Gibney, known as Alex Gibney, born in New York City on 23 October 1953, is an American documentary film director and producer who has been active since 1980. In 2010 Esquire magazine described him as becoming the most important documentarian of our time. His documentaries include Taxi to the Dark Side, winner of the 2007 Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature, Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room, We Steal Secrets: The Story of Wikileaks and Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief, which won three Emmys in 2015.
