Steptoe and Son is a British sitcom written by Ray Galton and Alan Simpson about a father-and-son rag-and-bone business on a fictional street in Shepherd's Bush, London, starring Wilfrid Brambell and Harry H. Corbett. Four series were broadcast by the BBC in black and white from 1962 to 1965, followed by a further four series in colour from 1970 to 1974, centering on the conflict between the grasping, elderly Albert Steptoe and his son Harold, whose social ambitions are repeatedly thwarted. The series was remade internationally, including as Sanford and Son in the United States, and was adapted into two theatrical films, Steptoe and Son in 1972 and Steptoe and Son Ride Again in 1973.
