Only Fools and Horses

Television Programming Landmarks

Only Fools and Horses is a British television sitcom created and written by John Sullivan, broadcast on BBC One from 1981 to 1996 across seven series and sixteen Christmas specials, with a final trilogy of specials airing between 2001 and 2003. Set in working-class Peckham in south-east London, it stars David Jason as ambitious market trader Derek Del Boy Trotter and Nicholas Lyndhurst as his younger half-brother Rodney Trotter, following the pair's attempts to get rich through Del's various schemes. The show was not an immediate hit and received little early promotion, but went on to achieve consistently high ratings, and its 1996 episode Time on Our Hands holds the record for the biggest UK television audience for a sitcom episode.
