Gasoline Alley is an American newspaper comic strip created by Frank King, beginning in 1918 first as a strip about automobile enthusiasts before expanding into a family centered strip after the childless bachelor character Walt Wallet found an abandoned baby, Skeezix, on his doorstep in 1921. King had Skeezix and later characters age in approximately real time from that point onward, a device unusual for the medium at the time, meaning the strip's cast has continued growing older across generations of continuous publication. It is recognized by comics historians as one of the medium's longest running strips and an early pioneer of continuity and real time character aging in serialized comics.
