Frank Oscar King, born on April 9, 1883 and died on June 24, 1969, was an American cartoonist best known for his comic strip Gasoline Alley. In addition to innovations with color and page design, King introduced real-time continuity in comic strips by showing his characters aging over generations. That decision made Gasoline Alley unusual among newspaper strips, because readers followed a family through births, growing up and later life rather than meeting characters who stayed the same from one year of publication to the next.
