Television Programming Landmarks

ER is an American medical drama television series created by novelist Michael Crichton that aired on NBC from 1994 to 2009, set in the emergency department of a fictional Chicago hospital and following its doctors, nurses and patients through fast-paced, overlapping storylines. The series was known for its rapid, jargon-dense dialogue, extended handheld and steadicam tracking shots through the hospital corridors, and an early cast that included George Clooney, whose role helped launch his film career. ER is widely regarded as one of the most influential American medical dramas ever produced and, at fifteen seasons, one of the longest-running primetime dramas in United States television history.
