Chrono Trigger

Interactive and Networked Media Landmarks

Chrono Trigger is a 1995 role-playing video game developed and published by Square for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, created by a team that included Hironobu Sakaguchi, Yuji Horii and character designer Akira Toriyama, sometimes nicknamed the industry's Dream Team. It follows Crono and his companions as they travel between prehistoric, medieval, present-day and post-apocalyptic periods of their world's history to prevent Lavos, a parasitic alien creature, from causing a global cataclysm in the future. The game's multiple endings, determined by when in the story the player chooses to confront Lavos, and its emphasis on player choice over a fixed narrative path were unusual for console role-playing games of the period, and it is regarded as one of the most acclaimed Japanese role-playing games ever made.
