Role-Playing Games

This group collects the Interactive and Networked Media Landmarks subcategory's members whose own description explicitly names them a role-playing game or action role-playing game (character growth through stats, levels or gear as the core structure), spanning the turn-based Japanese tradition of Final Fantasy VII, Chrono Trigger, Pokemon and Persona alongside the Western action-RPG tradition of Diablo, Dark Souls, Elden Ring, Skyrim and The Witcher 3. Kept apart from Sandbox and Open-World Games by following each entity's own stated head-genre term rather than the presence of an open, explorable world, since several of this group's own titles are themselves large open-world games.
