A Man for All Seasons is a 1966 British historical drama directed by Fred Zinnemann, adapted by Robert Bolt from his own stage play. Set from 1529 to 1535 during the reign of Henry VIII, it follows Sir Thomas More's refusal to endorse the annulment of the king's marriage to Catherine of Aragon or swear an oath naming Henry head of the Church of England. The film won the Academy Award for Best Picture at the 39th Academy Awards, with Zinnemann winning Best Director and Paul Scofield winning Best Actor.
