Sanford and Son

Sanford and Son is an American sitcom developed by Bud Yorkin and Norman Lear that ran on NBC from 1972 to 1977, starring Redd Foxx as junk dealer Fred G. Sanford and Demond Wilson as his son Lamont, running a salvage business in the Watts neighborhood of Los Angeles. Much of the show's comedy came from Fred's get rich quick schemes and comic friction with those around him, delivered through Foxx's sharp timing and memorable catchphrases. Conceived partly as NBC's answer to CBS's All in the Family, the show finished among the Nielsen top ten five times, became an influential early example of a Black led American sitcom that helped pave the way for later shows in the genre, and was named to Time magazine's list of the 100 Best TV Shows of All Time in 2007.
