The Sims is a life simulation video game franchise developed by Maxis and published by Electronic Arts, growing out of the Sim series that began with SimCity in 1989. Players direct the daily lives of virtual characters called Sims, managing their relationships, careers, needs and surroundings across a succession of base games and expansions. The franchise has sold nearly 200 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best selling video game series ever released.
