Spider-Man

Spider-Man is an American comic book superhero franchise centered on the character created by writer Stan Lee and artist Steve Ditko, who first appeared in Amazing Fantasy #15 in 1962 as the alter ego of Peter Parker, a teenage science student who gains spider like abilities after being bitten by a radioactive spider and adopts a costumed identity guided by the principle that with great power there must also come great responsibility. Published by Marvel Comics in an ongoing line of titles since the character's debut, the franchise became one of the company's flagship properties and has been adapted into numerous animated television series, a long running series of live action films spanning three separately cast film continuities since 2002, and video games including the acclaimed Marvel's Spider-Man series developed by Insomniac Games. Spider-Man's status as an ordinary, financially struggling teenager balancing personal problems with superheroism, rather than a wealthy or otherworldly figure, is widely credited with broadening the emotional range of the American superhero genre, and the character remains among the most commercially valuable in all of comics and film.
