Detective Conan

Detective Conan, released in English speaking markets as Case Closed, is a Japanese manga and anime mystery franchise created by Gosho Aoyama, serialized since 1994, following the teenage detective Shinichi Kudo, who is poisoned by a criminal organization and physically transformed into a child, and who continues solving cases while posing as a grade schooler named Conan Edogawa as he investigates the organization responsible. Its long running manga and anime, the latter airing continuously since 1996, have made it one of the best known mystery franchises in Japan, and its annual theatrical films have consistently ranked among the highest grossing releases at the Japanese box office for decades, an unusual achievement for a franchise built on a television anime rather than a blockbuster live action property. The series' episodic case of the week structure combined with a long running conspiracy plot, its detective protagonist's catchphrase there is only one truth, and its large recurring cast of police and rival detectives have made it one of the most enduring manga and anime franchises still in active production.
