Avatar (franchise)

Avatar is an American epic science fiction media franchise created by James Cameron, which began with the 2009 film Avatar, produced by Lightstorm Entertainment and distributed by 20th Century Studios. Set on the fictional moon Pandora, the franchise follows humans who use genetically engineered Na'vi bodies, called avatars, to interact with the moon's indigenous population amid conflict over the exploitation of Pandora's resources. Beyond its feature films, the franchise extends into associated merchandise, video games and theme park attractions, and its original film became one of the highest-grossing films of all time upon release.
