Angry Birds is a media franchise built on the mobile video game created by Finnish designer Jaakko Iisalo for Rovio Entertainment, released in 2009; the game's success reversed the fortunes of Rovio, which had been near bankruptcy. Rovio Entertainment, now a subsidiary of Sega following its acquisition in August 2023, has since expanded the franchise into numerous further video games across genres, theatrical films, a television series, merchandise, theme park attractions, and branded partnerships with other companies.
