American Pie (film series)

American Pie is a comedy film franchise that began in 1999 with Universal Pictures' release of the original film, written by Adam Herz. The core series comprises four theatrical sex comedies released between 1999 and 2012, American Pie, American Pie 2, American Wedding and American Reunion, following the same group of friends from their teenage years into adulthood. A separate direct to video spin off line, American Pie Presents, added five further films between 2005 and 2020, bringing the full franchise to nine features. Made on a combined budget of roughly 145 million dollars, the original four films together earned close to a billion dollars worldwide, and the first installment became a defining pop culture phenomenon of its era with a lasting cult following among young audiences.
