Inspector Gadget is a media franchise created by Jean Chalopin, Andy Heyward and Bruno Bianchi that began in 1983 with an animated television series produced by DIC Entertainment. It follows a well meaning but dim witted cyborg police officer who credits himself with solving crimes against the criminal organization M.A.D. and its leader Dr. Claw, even though the real detective work is quietly done by his niece Penny and her dog Brain without his knowledge. The franchise has since expanded across animated and live action television series, animated and live action feature films, video games, comic books and merchandise, and remains active into the 2020s under owner WildBrain, with Disney holding the film rights.
