Publication of Action Comics #1

Comics Milestones

In April 1938, National Allied Publications (the corporate predecessor of DC Comics) put Action Comics #1 on sale, introducing Superman and, by most accounts, the superhero genre. Editor Vin Sullivan's rushed decision to fill the issue with Siegel and Shuster's previously rejected material proved to be one of the most consequential publishing choices in comics history.
