Founded in 1851 by Henry Jarvis Raymond and George Jones as a newspaper committed to sober, factual reporting rather than the sensationalism of its rivals, the New York Times grew into one of the longest-running newspapers in the United States and one of the country's newspapers of record, its front page motto promising all the news that's fit to print.
