The American trade association of the major film studios, founded in 1922 as the Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America under Will Hays, renamed the Motion Picture Association of America in 1945 and shortened to the Motion Picture Association in 2019. It administered the Hays Code's Production Code Administration from 1934 until Jack Valenti replaced the Code with a voluntary film rating system in 1968.
