Richard Attenborough

Richard Attenborough was an English actor and filmmaker who lived from 1923 to 2014 and worked across seven decades of British and international cinema. As an actor he was known for roles including Pinkie Brown in Brighton Rock and Squadron Leader Roger Bartlett in The Great Escape, and he later appeared as John Hammond in Jurassic Park. His film Gandhi won the Academy Awards for Best Director and Best Picture in 1982, and his other directorial work includes Young Winston, A Bridge Too Far, and Cry Freedom. He received a total of two Academy Awards, six BAFTA Awards, and four Golden Globe Awards, and was knighted in 1976 for services to film.
