Ramesh Sippy, born in Karachi, Sind, British India, is an Indian film director, actor and producer in Hindi cinema. He is particularly known as the director of Sholay in 1975, often regarded as one of the most influential films ever made in India. The Government of India honoured him with the Padma Shri in 2013, and in 2017 he founded the Ramesh Sippy Academy of Cinema and Entertainment.
