Ralph Leo Nelson was an American film and television director, producer, writer and actor, born in Long Island City, New York, on 12 August 1916 and died on 21 December 1987. He was best known for directing Lilies of the Field in 1963, Father Goose in 1964 and Charly in 1968, films which won Academy Awards, and his career ran from 1950 to 1979.
