A German-born American engineer who designed the 'Brown Box,' the prototype video game console he developed at Sanders Associates between 1966 and 1972, licensed to Magnavox and released to the public as the Magnavox Odyssey in September 1972, the first commercial home video game console. He later co-developed the electronic memory game Simon (1978) and held more than 150 patents; he is widely called the father of video games for his role in sparking the home video game industry.
