Prakash Jha, born in Bettiah, Bihar, on 27 February 1952, is an Indian filmmaker and actor known for his political and socio-political films, such as Hip Hip Hurray and Damul of 1984, Mrityudand, Gangaajal and Apaharan, and for his multi-starrer films Raajneeti, Aarakshan and Chakravyuh. He has been active since 1982. He also made the National Film Award winning documentaries Faces After the Storm in 1984 and Sonal in 2002, and he runs the production company Prakash Jha Productions.
