Peter Watkins was an English filmmaker, documentarian, writer and film theorist, born in Norbiton, Surrey, on 29 October 1935 and died on 30 October 2025. He is known as a pioneer of the docudrama and mockumentary genres, typically with heavy political content, and his films present pacifist and radical ideas in a nontraditional style. He mainly concentrated his work on the mass media and on viewers' relation to and participation in a movie or television documentary, and nearly all of his films combined dramatic and documentary elements.
